A group of nine paintings, How Sweet It Is relates to the borough that I have been calling my home for almost half of my life. Divided into three groups of canvases, each sub-group has a specific focus. Paintings VII, VII and IX include text fragments that describe places, experiences and emotions that I associate with Brooklyn. While I do list my memories in an abbreviated “keyword cloud” fashion, these pieces aim at making viewers think about their own journey they have taken, perhaps as immigrants like myself.
In a larger context, these work are part of the Tex/ures series where I try to to explore the gray areas and overlaps between painting and writing.
